There are many ways to offer support. Tell us what matters to you and when you can help.
Apply to VolunteerThe gift of being there
A conversation, a shared memory, or a calm presence can make a meaningful difference. Hospice volunteers offer non-medical support that helps patients and families feel seen, heard, and connected.
You do not need to be a healthcare professional to express interest. Listening, reliability, respect for privacy, and a willingness to learn matter. Assignments depend on preparation, patient needs, and available opportunities.
Ways you can contribute
Patient companionship
Share conversation, read aloud, listen to music, or simply sit with a patient during an assigned visit.
Caregiver support
Offer an additional caring presence within an approved assignment. Volunteers do not replace skilled care or a full-time caregiver.
Office & administrative support
Help with appropriate office tasks, organizing materials, or other non-clinical support.
Community outreach
Support approved community activities and help people connect with reliable hospice information.
Spiritual companionship
Offer respectful listening that honors a patient’s beliefs and preferences, within your training and assignment.
Your skills & interests
Tell us about languages, creative interests, or experience that may support a suitable non-medical assignment.
Preparing to volunteer
Patient and family privacy, professional boundaries, and dependable visits are essential. Preparation may include an interview, orientation, training, background screening, and health clearances appropriate to the assignment. Talna will explain the requirements before placement.
Topics may include compassionate communication, hospice care, confidentiality, infection prevention, and when to ask the care team for help. Volunteers do not administer medication or provide independent clinical care.

Questions before you apply
How much time is involved?
Share the days, times, and approximate hours you can offer. The team will discuss a commitment that fits an available assignment; no fixed schedule is promised here.
Can I volunteer after experiencing a loss?
A personal loss can shape your interest in hospice. If you have questions about readiness, discuss them privately with the team. You do not need to share medical or bereavement details in the application.
Will I be working directly with patients?
Some assignments involve patient companionship; others support office or community activities. Preparation and matching happen before any patient contact.
